How internal conservatory roof insulation works

Your existing roof stays. We improve what's underneath it.

Where the existing roof and structure are suitable, our InsulSafe system is installed internally beneath the roof.

At the heart of the system is an 11-layer multi-foil insulation, creating an additional insulating layer between the external roof and the room below.

The insulation is then concealed behind your chosen uPVC or plaster finish, creating a completely new ceiling inside the conservatory.

One insulation system. Two very different looks.

The insulation does its job behind the scenes. What you see is entirely up to you.

What difference can conservatory roof insulation make?

It's about getting more from the room you already have.

  • More comfortable as the seasons change

Insulating the roof helps reduce heat transfer through one of the largest areas of the conservatory, helping the room retain warmth when it's cold and reducing heat transfer through the roof during warmer weather.

  • Quieter when the rain comes down

Adding insulation and a finished ceiling creates additional layers beneath the existing roof, which can help reduce the amount of noise you hear inside.

  • A completely new look inside

Whether you choose uPVC or plaster, the new ceiling hides the insulation system and gives an older conservatory a fresh, finished appearance.

Replacement conservatory roof

Insulation or a replacement roof?

Sometimes insulation is all you need. Sometimes it isn't.

If your existing conservatory roof is in good condition and the main problem is how the room feels when temperatures change, internal roof insulation could be a straightforward and cost-effective solution.

If the roof itself is ageing, leaking or needs replacing, or you're looking for a more substantial change to the conservatory, a replacement conservatory roof may make better sense.

We'll assess what you already have and recommend the level of work that makes sense for your conservatory and what you want from the space.

Conservatory Roof Insulation FAQs

  • Does conservatory roof insulation really work?

Internal conservatory roof insulation can improve the thermal performance of an existing conservatory by helping to reduce heat transfer through the roof.

How much difference it makes will depend on the existing roof and the wider construction of the conservatory, including its windows, glazing and doors.

  • Can you insulate an existing conservatory roof?

In many cases, yes. Our internal insulation system is installed beneath a suitable existing conservatory roof, allowing the external roof to remain in place while insulation and a new internal ceiling are added underneath.

  • Will conservatory roof insulation help in summer and winter?

Insulation can help in both warmer and colder weather. It helps reduce heat loss through the roof when it's cold outside, while also helping reduce heat transfer through the roof during warmer weather.

  • Does conservatory roof insulation reduce rain noise?

It can help. Glass and polycarbonate conservatory roofs can be particularly noisy during heavy rain. Adding insulation and a finished internal ceiling creates additional layers beneath the existing roof.

  • What's the difference between a uPVC and plaster finish?

The InsulSafe insulation system sits behind both, so the main difference is the finished appearance inside your conservatory.

A uPVC ceiling gives you a clean, bright and low-maintenance finish, while plaster creates a smoother, more traditional room-like appearance.

  • How long does conservatory roof insulation take to install?

Many of our internal conservatory insulation installations can be completed quickly, with some projects completed in as little as a day.

The exact installation time will depend on the size and shape of your conservatory, the existing roof and the finish you choose.

  • Should I insulate my conservatory roof or replace it?

It depends on the condition of your existing roof and what you're trying to achieve. If the roof itself is sound and thermal comfort is the main issue, internal insulation may be all that's needed.

If the roof is ageing, leaking or needs replacing, or you want a more substantial change to the conservatory, a replacement roof may make better sense.

  • How much does conservatory roof insulation cost?

The cost of conservatory roof insulation depends on factors such as the size and shape of your conservatory, the existing roof and whether you choose a uPVC or plaster finish.
